The boy in this photo has washed onto the shore, motionless on the waves, like the material he's made off. In the media it looks like refugees are seen as waste washed ashore, when one reads responses on forums or under news messages. This crocheted doll is partly made of acryl, partly repurposed plastic bags - which are ment to collect plastic in - and partly material found on the beach. Acryl and plastic do not recycle themselves, just like this refugee crisis. The acryl gives the doll some softness and color to this image, whereas the plastic is hard and cold. A comparison as we see between the vulnerability of drowned children and the war they didn't ask for. The life spirit and bodies of refugees are being recycled in their new home country. Just like their belongings left in their homeland.
